CAPRICORN (Dec. 22 – Jan. 20)
Capricorn pets, who are usually a bit mellower, may appear worked up around the 11th. Pet owners can improve the situation with a little more one-on-one time and perhaps some additional exercise to ward off cabin fever. Treat your pet to a longer-than-usual belly rub or ear massage to soothe his or her nerves. By the 27th of July, things should be back to normal.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 21 – Feb. 19)
Once your Aquarius pet sets his sights on something (whether it be your socks or that giggly-sounding toy at the pet store), he doesn't like to give it up. Stop being too flexible with your pet: it's time he learns some boundaries. Either join a group obedience class at a training facility or local pet store, or spend 20 minutes a day at home training your pet to obey you – the alpha pack leader.

PISCES (Feb. 20 – Mar. 20)
With the onset of beach weather, owners of Pisces pets should take note of any unusual behavior. Around the 21st you might find your Pisces pet making some mischief around the house – such as nesting in new spots, exploring random nooks and crannies or hiding toys and treats in the oddest of places. Make sure the house's temperature is set at a cool climate to keep your furry friend comfortable throughout the day.

ARIES (Mar. 21 – Apr. 20)
Aries pets may seem a bit precocious this month. Pet owners: be wary of a sassy attitude. Chalk it up to a bit of restlessness, the summertime heat and lack of sleep. (Have the crickets been keeping your pets awake at night?) Tame your pet's behavior with the best remedy: activity, and lots of it. A tired pet is a happy, healthy pet.

TAURUS (Apr. 21 – May 21)
It's all about nesting this month as Taurus pets adjust to the heat and prefer to rest languidly on the couch or on a favorite window ledge. Near the 29th, their attention will shift to family matters as activity increases at home. In the meantime, encourage Taurus pets to stay calm and relaxed between the 6th and the 12th, while their solar houses are shifting.

GEMINI (May 22 – June 21)
Change is afoot for Gemini pets this July. Perhaps a family vacation, a move to a new home or a new pet companion around the 9th? Pet owners, be aware of the significant effect it could have: sudden change can create anxiety and distress. Take therapeutic measures to ensure your pet's emotional stability: plenty of one-on-one time and an extra special rub at least once a day.

CANCER (June 22 – July 23)
Always the calming force at home, Cancer pets often offer a shoulder to cry on, a gentle nudge, or constant companionship when you're having a bad day. Expect your pet to respond accordingly through the 12th, when things settle down at home. By the end of the month, treat your pet to some social fun: a play date or simply some favorite friendly visitors.

LEO (July 24 – Aug. 23)
Don't let the summer heat stop you from exercising your Leo pet this month. Weight gain during the hottest months of the year can be detrimental to your pet's health. Leo pets – with their voracious appetites – can be prone to packing on the pounds. Find time during the cooler parts of the day to walk Leo dogs outside, or motivate your pet with some indoor activities such as fetch, chase or cat and mouse games.

VIRGO (Aug. 24 – Sept. 23)
Around the first week of July, Virgo pets' moods will soar. Encourage their high spirits by splurging on a new toy or two bound to delight and entertain. Make sure to rely on your pet owner instincts if your Virgo pet begins to show a change in behavior around the 28th; if you suspect it's something other than a mood change, schedule an appointment with your veterinarian for a routine checkup.
