Bruneau Marred By Neighbor’s Weed Trimmer
Natalie Bartley of Boise, Idaho, knew to keep Bruneau, her Labrador retriever indoors every time either her husband or her neighbor’s gardener was planning to cut down the weeds in the backyard to prevent any possible weed trimmer incidents. Unfortunately, Natalie was unaware that her neighbor had recently changed their gardening schedule to accommodate their new child, so on a warm day in May, the back door was left open making way for a startling experience.
“Bruneau heard the weed trimmer buzzing and ran out to see it,” explained Natalie. “He was then able to get to the other side of the fence by squeezing through a loose board. By the time I got to him, he had blood dripping from his nose.”
The string on the gardener’s weed trimmer bounced up and hit Bruneau on the nose, narrowly missing his eye. Upon viewing the blood, Natalie quickly took Bruneau to the veterinarian clinic. “The veterinarian was able to clean it up and give him antibiotics to treat the wound,” said Natalie. “Luckily, the incident didn’t require any stitches and his scar is healing nicely.”
Since the weed trimmer injury occurred, Natalie and her husband have laid down boards on the fence where Bruneau was able to get through. Natalie is pleased she purchased pet insurance to provide peace of mind in case Bruneau has any future unforeseen injuries or illnesses.
“We bought pet insurance as soon as we got our dog seven years ago,” said Natalie. “Our pets are family members. We don’t hesitate to go to the veterinarian when they are sick or injured.”
