Veterinary Referral & Emergency Center Receives $10,000 Nationwide Donation

As a result of Rooster winning the 2017 Hambone Award, Veterinary Referral & Emergency Center (VREC) of Clark Summit Pennsylvania will receive the $10,000 Nationwide-funded award through the Veterinary Care Foundation to treat pets whose owners could not otherwise afford veterinary care.

After being impaled by a tree branch during a routine hiking trip, Rooster was saved by the incredible veterinary staff at VREC, who performed a life saving surgery to remove the large piece of wood from his chest.

Thanks to a heroic effort from the City of Jessup’s Chief of Police, Joseph Walsh, and amazing veterinary care, Rooster has made a full recovery and is back to his loving ways.

Nationwide would like to thank all 12 veterinary hospitals that treated the 2017 Hambone Award® nominees. All pets nominated for the Hambone Award have made full recoveries and received insurance reimbursements for eligible expenses.
