“‘Dodgeball’ is one of my favorite movies, and the name Me’Shell just ended up being perfect for a tortoise,” says reptile mom Jessi M. “Plus, he’s bulky like the character he’s named after.”
She adds, “Usually, [people] love it because it has ‘shell’ in the name, but other ‘Dodgeball’ fans get it right away.”
Me’Shell has a big personality to match his uniquely wacky name. Jessi says, “He’s a grumpy little guy. He hisses at us no matter what, but we love him anyways…. He will dig a hole and cover himself completely. There have been a couple of times I was convinced he had escaped somehow, but he was just buried.”
Tortoises can live a long time, and many require specialty care to stay healthy. Knowing this, Jessi got Nationwide pet insurance through her employer. “I wanted to make sure my pets were covered if they needed something major done,” she says.
