Cowpig

Part bovine, part swine, 100% divine—this is a wacky pet name that really moo-ves the needle.

“We came up with the idea for the name when we first saw her,” say Sharmeen M. and Matt W., Nationwide members and guinea pig parents to Cowpig. “Her colors and pattern made her look like a majestic moo moo—hence Cowpig was dubbed.”

The connection Sharmeen and Matt felt with Cowpig was instant from the moment they met. “We were initially going to choose a different pig,” they recall. “But when the pet store employee reached into the cage, all the other pigs ran away and hid. Cowpig did not—she stood her ground, as if she were their guinea pig ambassador. We admired her bravery. She's got a very big personality for such a small rodent!”

Their love for Cowpig led them to explore options for protecting their piggy friend. “Although guinea pigs are common pets, they are classified as exotic animals and therefore have much higher vet costs,” they say. “This is why we chose to get Nationwide … it's honestly been a huge help, especially because of the mounting vet costs we had when both of our guinea pigs were sick during the holidays. We want to be able to provide the best care possible for our pets, and Nationwide has helped us to do that.”
